Annual pet exams are very important to help keep your pet healthy.

Office Visits:  We know how much you love your pet so we stress thorough check-ups and preventive care. An annual exam is important to maintain a long and healthy life together. Whether you have a new puppy or kitten or a senior, older loving companion, all our patients get a nose to tail exam. We record weight, check eyes, ears, teeth, coat, behavior and more. Together we discuss nutrition, diet, exercise and lifestyle goals for you and your pet.

Vaccinations available for: cats, kittens, dogs and puppies. Vaccines protect against contagious and potentially fatal diseases.

Vaccinations:   Maintaining your pet’s vaccination schedule is one of the best ways to keep your pet healthy and safe. Vaccines protect against contagious and potentially fatal diseases. We provide a complete puppy & kitten vaccination schedule, as well as, a comprehensive program for your mature pet.

The most common and core vaccines for dogs are: Rabies, Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Parainfluenza and Adenovirus.

We also recommend that your dog be protected with the non-core, but equally as important vaccines, for Leptospirosis, Lyme disease and Bordetella (kennel cough) and Canine Influenza Virus.

Cats and kittens core vaccines are: Rabies, Panleukopenia (feline distemper), Rhinotracheitis and Calicivirus.

The non-core vaccines recommended for cats are Feline Leukemia. We can also provide vaccination titers for certain diseases.

Our diagnostic tests can help determine your pets illness in order to recommend best course of treatment.

Diagnostic tests:  Our hospital can perform sophisticated, in-house tests on your animals and pets by utilizing our advanced blood analysis machines. We can also perform a wide range of other testing at our hospital, including urinalysis, internal and external parasite tests, skin scrapings, fungal cultures, ear cytology, thyroid function, blood chemistry to help diagnosis diabetes and other diseases. Heartworm disease, Lyme disease, Anaplasmosis and other tick borne diseases can also be uncovered right in our office. When necessary, we utilize outside laboratories that perform the most advanced tests in the veterinary field to help us diagnosis your pets illness. These labs employ board certified specialists in internal medicine, endocrinology, cardiology, infectious disease, and exotic animal diseases. These specialists are able to interpret laboratory results and confer with our doctors on the best course of treatment.

X-rays are another diagnostic tool that we utilize to help determine your pets illness.

Radiographic X-rays: are another invaluable diagnostic tool that we utilize as needed for determining your pets illness. X-rays are taken in our facility and reviewed promptly by our staff. If necessary, we can also e-mail the results to a board certified radiologist and consult with them for further confirmation of a particular diagnosis. Ultrasound, Endoscopy, Electrocardiography services can be performed on site and interpreted immediately or can be e-mailed for consultation with a specialist.

Routine surgeries (spays, neuters, mass removals, declaws), as well as,  advanced soft tissue and orthopedic surgery are performed by our highly trained veterinarians.

Surgery: Our state-of-the-art veterinarian surgical suite allows us to perform routine procedures, including spays, neuters, mass removals, in addition to advanced soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. We utilize the safest anesthesia available and administer the best and most effective medications to provide a pain free procedure before, during and after surgery. Laser surgery is recommended and is available on all surgical procedures and is required for declaws. If needed, board certified surgeons are available upon request.

Dental work, advanced and routine checkups, including: teeth cleaning, elimination of bad breath and dental procedures including surgery for your dogs, cats and most other pets are performed at our animal hospital.

Dental: Advanced and routine dental checkups and procedures are available for your dogs, cats, and most pets at our veterinary animal hospital. Available services include for teeth cleaning, scaling and polishing, tooth extractions, root canal and oral surgery. All procedures are performed utilizing our high-tech dental equipment; including a digital dental x-ray machine.

Such equipment will uncover and eliminate any dental problems your pet may have,  such as; bad breath, gum inflammation, periodontal disease, loose or broken teeth, plaque and tarter buildup. Annual dental checkups are recommended for all dogs and cats as well as preventative dental health care such as routine brushing and specially formulated dental diets.

Our Pharmacy is well-stocked with medications and antibiotics for all animal illnesses. We also carry tick, flea, heartworm treatments, vitamins and shampoos.

Pharmacy: South Salem Animal Hospital maintains a full pharmacy and can provide medication for heart, kidney, liver, intestinal and pancreatic diseases. We also dispense medications for arthritis, skin, ear and eye problem and offer a wide spectrum of antibiotics for all animal illnesses. Our pharmacy is well-stocked with vitamins, shampoos, the latest tick and flea treatments and heartworm preventative for dogs and cats. Prescriptions can be easily filled by phone or e-mail. Our doctors and staff are fully trained on medications we carry. We pick and choose the ones that are the best on the market and we have very competitive pricing frequently below that of internet pricing.

Call ahead for fast service without an appointment for minor treatment with our Flash (quick outpatient) Service.

Flash (quick outpatient) Service: When your pet needs a minor treatment, such as a nail trim, anal gland expression, blood test and specified vaccines, you can call ahead for fast service without an appointment.

Leave your pet for the day with our Drop-offs, if you are unable to come in during regular office hours.

Drop-offs: For your added convenience, if you are unable to come in during our regular office hours, you may leave your pet for the day. Your pet will be examined by one of our doctors and you will get a full report as soon as possible.

We make House Calls. Have a doctor visit your pet at home.

House Calls: We know that sometimes it’s necessary to have a doctor visit your pet at home. Please speak to our receptionist to arrange for this service.

Boarding at our animal hospital includes veterinary supervision, if required, for your dogs, cats, birds, exotics, and small farm animals. 

Boarding: We offer full service, medical and non-medical boarding for dogs, cats, birds, exotics, pigs, goats and other family pets. .

Daycare for dogs and cats.  Dogs can play in our dog park or have a bath, nail trim and blow out. Cats can stay in our exclusive cat hotel.

Daycare: You can drop your pet off for the day. Whether it’s a trip to the city or work being done in your home. Your pet will get the same TLC as if it were at home. If you like, your dog can mingle with friends in our beautiful fenced in dog park or have a day of beauty with a bath nail trim and blow out. Cats can stay in our exclusive cat hotel and relax in our sunny home like setting.

Dietary and Nutritional Counseling: Our veterinarians are trained to guide you regarding your pets nutritional needs through ever stage of life. Whether they need to lose a few pounds or have a medical condition that requires a special diet, we can help develop a plan for your pet. We carry many prescription diets manufactured by companies like; Hills Science Diet , Iams, Eukanuba, Royal Canin and Purina We can special order whatever may be needed for your pet.

Microchipping: South Salem Animal Hospital recommends that all dogs and cats be microchipped. We insert a tiny microchip under the skin during a routine office visit. We then register your pet with a national data base for quick recovery if your cat or dog is ever lost or stolen.
